How to Begin Your Journey with Us
Hospice care in Los Angeles—through Advent Hospice Care—is compassionate, comfort-focused care for individuals with a terminal diagnosis when curative treatment is no longer pursued. It is delivered by an interdisciplinary team (physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, hospice certified aides, volunteers) who work collaboratively to ensure comfort, dignity, and emotional, spiritual, and physical support aligned with the patient’s goals.
Individuals, who are terminally ill and have limited life expectancy certified by a physician, and a decision to focus on comfort, not cure. Care must be deliverable in a safe setting such as home, assisted living, skilled nursing facilities, residential care facilities (RCFE) and or inpatient hospice.
To be admitted, patients must have a life-limiting illness with a prognosis of six months or less, confirmed by their physician, and a choice to receive comfort-focused rather than curative treatment. A safe care environment must be established.
Advent offers four hospice care levels:
Patients may stay on hospice as long as they continue to meet eligibility (life expectancy ≤ six months). Some may remain for days or weeks, others for several months.
Hospice care is typically covered by Medicare, Medi-Cal (California Medicaid), and most private insurance plans. Additionally, Advent assists with insurance and financial guidance to ensure coverage.
Yes. Medi-Cal (California’s Medicaid program) covers hospice services, as noted among the payment sources accepted by Advent Hospice Care.
The downside of hospice care is that it focuses solely on comfort and symptom management rather than curative treatment, which means patients stop receiving treatments aimed at curing their illness. This can feel like “giving up” to some patients or families. Additionally, hospice eligibility requires a prognosis of six months or less, so patients who stabilize or improve may be discharged and have to re-enroll later if needed. Some people also find it emotionally difficult to accept the transition to end-of-life care, even though the goal is to improve quality of life.
Yes. If a patient’s condition improves or they wish to pursue curative treatment, they can leave hospice care by signing a revocation form and may re-enroll later if needed.
