Hospice Physician Roles and Responsibilities

Monitors policies and standards for the medical aspect of the patient care program.
Provides medical direction to hospice patients on routine and emergency basis.
Acts as a liaison between the patient’s attending physician and the IDG members.
Attends IDG meetings and participates in the on-going development of individualized care plans.
Certifies/re-certifies patient’s Medicare hospice benefit eligibility.
Participates in the development, coordination and implementation of hospice policies and procedures.
Acts as consultant to patient’s primary physician.
Presents educational in-services for IDG and the community.
Facilitates liaison activities between Hospice and local medical community.
